Welcome to the village where Claude Monet, the painter and gardener lived,
for more than forty years, until he died in 1926, Giverny was his home, his place of creation, and his work.
Claude Monet’s house and garden
Claude Monet lived from 1883 to 1926, forty-three years, in his house in Giverny. he was passionate about gardening as well as colour. He designed his garden of flowers as if they were artworks. The atmosphere generated by this master of impressionism can still be felt to this day whilst walking through his house and garden.
Impressionists Museum
The museum explores the history, the origins, the geographical diversity and the evolution towards other artistic movements. It is interested in impressionist artists, as well as the precursors of the movement and its heirs, from the end of the 19th century to the present day. Each year, two to three major exhibitions are displayed.

Domaine de Villarceaux
Viewed from different perspectives, the domain of Villarceaux offers the visitor a journey back in history and time. The story begins in the eleventh or twelfth century with a small wooden castle near where Louis VII founded a Benedictine priory for women. Water played a key role in life, and they were self sufficient. The seigniory of Villarceaux arrived a century later. The gardens are listed as “Remarkable Gardens”.
Château Gaillard
For more than 800 years, the Château-Gaillard has been keeping watch from the top of its rocky outcrop over the Andelys, one of the most beautiful loops of the Normandy Seine
Built in record time, between 1196 and 1198, in order to protect the Seine and the city of Rouen from the claims of the French king, Philippe Auguste, the Château-Gaillard was at the time hugely successful as a defensive castle.
Rouen
Rouen has the largest collection of impressionist paintings outside Paris, with a number of famous works by Monet and Sisley. Rouen is not only the city with a hundred steeples, it has an important heritage with a rich and exciting history.
Château du Champ de Bataille
Built in a square design, this 17th century Chateau consists of two large connected wings, on the entrance side, by a gallery with a large portico and above it has a wonderful balustrade.
The gardens are listed as “Remarkable Gardens”.
The guiding inspiration for the design of the garden at that time will have been to be both contemporary and classic.
Lyons La Forêt
Built on the site of a 12th century fortified castle Lyons la Forêt is classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France.
The outskirts of the village border the forest of Lyon which can be reached in a few minutes, one can enter this forest of beeches, thought of as the most beautiful beech grove of France.
